Lincoln Cent (Penny)

The coin features a bust of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, with the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" above, "LIBERTY" to his left, and the date "1976" and a "D" mint mark (for Denver) to his right. The reverse typically features the Lincoln Memorial.

The Lincoln Cent is one of the most enduring designs in U.S. coinage, first issued in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The 1976 Lincoln Cent's composition was copper-plated zinc for most of its production, contrasting with earlier pure copper versions, due to rising copper prices. This coin was minted during the bicentennial year of the United States, though the penny itself did not carry a special bicentennial design.

Common 1976-D Lincoln cents in circulated condition are worth face value or a few cents. Uncirculated examples can fetch $0.15 - $0.50, and higher grades might be worth slightly more. Varieties or errors can significantly increase value.
