10 Francs (Mathieu Type)

A copper-colored coin featuring an abstract map of France on the obverse and industrial/urban imagery on the reverse.

Designed by Georges Mathieu, this coin was introduced in 1974 to replace the silver 10 Francs. It reflects the post-war industrial modernization of France and the 'Trente Glorieuses' period of economic growth. It was a staple of French currency until it was frequently counterfeited, leading to the introduction of a bi-metallic 10 Franc coin in the late 1980s.

Fine to Very Fine. There is significant even wear on the high points of the abstract design and the rim is slightly bruised.

10 Francs (Robert Cochey type) or the later bi-metallic 10 Francs. It is easily distinguished by its solid brass-like appearance and the distinct 'Mathieu' abstract art style.

Avoid cleaning the coin with chemicals or abrasives as this destroys the numismatic value. Store in an acid-free holder (PVC-free) to prevent corrosion.
