Overview
A bimetallic euro coin featuring a stylized tree inside a hexagon on the national side and the common European Union map on the value side.
Historical significance
Issued as part of the initial release of Euro currency, France adopted these coins ahead of physical cash circulation in 2002, marking European economic integration.
Obverse (front)
Features a stylized tree designed by Joaquin Jimenez, enclosed within a hexagon surrounded by the national motto 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ', the letters 'RF' (République Française), the year 1999 split by the bottom, and the twelve stars of the European flag.
Reverse (back)
Features the common European map design showing the pre-2004 EU borders next to a large '2 EURO' denomination, flanked by vertical stripes and six stars on the right.
Estimated value
$2.20 - $5.00 for circulated examples; higher for uncirculated or proof conditions.
What drives this coin's value
