Franklin Half Dollar

Brief Description

The obverse features a profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin facing right, with the word 'LIBERTY' above his head and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' below. The date '1950' is positioned to the right of his neck.

Historical Significance

Minted from 1948 to 1963, this series was designed by John R. Sinnock. It was the first U.S. circulating coin to depict a non-president and a real historic person since the Lincoln cent. The series was prematurely ended following the assassination of John F. Kennedy to make way for the Kennedy Half Dollar.

Estimated Value

$10.00 - $15.00 USD (in average circulated condition, primarily based on silver melt value)

Care Instructions

Do not clean or polish the coin, as this can severely decrease numismatic value. Store in a cool, dry place inside a PVC-free coin holder or flip to prevent scratches and environmental damage.
