Brief Description

A bimetallic coin with a silver-colored outer ring and a gold-colored center. The obverse features the profile of King Albert II of Belgium facing left, with his royal monogram (a crowned 'A') to the right. The 12 stars of the EU and the year 2000 are on the outer ring.

Historical Significance

This coin is part of the first series of Euro coins issued by Belgium. Although dated 2000, these were part of the initial mass-production of currency for the actual Euro introduction in 2002. It features King Albert II, who reigned from 1993 until his abdication in 2013.
