Brief Description

The reverse side features a heraldic eagle with wings spread, perched on a bundle of arrows with two olive branches below it. The obverse features the profile of George Washington.

Historical Significance

The Washington Quarter was first struck in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. The design shown here, featuring the eagle reverse, remained the standard design for the coin for nearly 60 years until the start of the 50 State Quarters program in 1999.
