The obverse features a profile bust of Franklin D. Roosevelt, facing left, with 'LIBERTY' inscribed around the top and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' below his chin. The year '1998' is to the right of his neck, along with a 'D' mint mark indicating it was minted in Denver.
Historical Significance
The Roosevelt Dime was first issued in 1946, shortly after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's death, to honor his memory and his efforts in establishing the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (later the March of Dimes), which funded research into polio. It replaced the Mercury Dime.
Estimated Value
Circulated 1998-D dimes are typically worth their face value ($0.10). Uncirculated examples might fetch slightly more, generally a few dollars depending on grade, but are not considered rare.
Care Instructions
To preserve the coin's condition, handle it by the edges to avoid transferring oils from your skin. Store it in a cool, dry place, preferably in an acid-free holder or album designed for coins. Avoid cleaning the coin, as this can devalue it.
