Brief Description

The obverse features the left-facing profile of George Washington, the first U.S. President, based on a bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The words 'LIBERTY' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' are inscribed around him, with the date '1960' at the bottom.

Historical Significance

Designed by John Flanagan, the Washington Quarter was first released in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Quarters minted from 1932 to 1964 are particularly significant to collectors and investors because they contain 90% silver, unlike modern quarters which are clad in copper-nickel.
