Lincoln Wheat Cent

Brief Description

The obverse features a profile of Abraham Lincoln facing right, with the inscriptions 'IN GOD WE TRUST', 'LIBERTY', and the date '1913'. The (unseen) reverse features two stalks of wheat framing the words 'ONE CENT' and 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'.

Historical Significance

Designed by Victor David Brenner, the Lincoln cent was the first US coin to feature a person rather than Lady Liberty. It was introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The 1913 issue is a common early date in the Wheat series.

Care Instructions

To maintain its value, do not clean the coin as this can damage the original patina. Handle by the edges and store in an acid-free holder away from moisture.
