Brief Description

The reverse features a majestic bald eagle with wings spread, perched upon a bundle of arrows with two olive branches beneath. The words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'QUARTER DOLLAR' encircle the edge.

Historical Significance

The Washington Quarter was first struck in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. The design shown here, by John Flanagan, was the standard for American quarters for over 60 years until the 50 State Quarters program began in 1999.
