Voyageur Silver Dollar

Brief Description

The reverse side features a voyageur and an Indigenous person paddling a birchbark canoe, with the northern lights in the background and an islet with trees. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Historical Significance

The Voyageur design was created by Emanuel Hahn and first appeared in 1935 to celebrate King George V's Silver Jubilee. It honor's Canada's history with the fur trade and early exploration. 1965 was the first year use of the 'Tiara' portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin on Canadian coinage.
