The Roosevelt Dime was first issued in 1946, shortly after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's death, to honor his work with the March of Dimes, which funded polio research. It replaced the Mercury Dime. The design, by John R. Sinnock, has remained largely unchanged since its inception, making it a common coin in circulation.
