Brief Description
The reverse features the denomination '5 FRANCS' and the date '1850' enclosed within a laurel and oak wreath. Around the rim is the motto 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ'. Not shown but on the obverse is usually the profile of Ceres, the goddess of agriculture.
Historical Significance
This coin was minted during the French Second Republic (1848–1852). It replaced the monarchist iconography of the previous era with Republican symbols, following the Revolution of 1848.
