The Washington Quarter was first minted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. While the reverse design changes frequently for various series (like the 50 State Quarters or American Women Quarters), the obverse with Washington's portrait has remained largely consistent. Coins from 2021 are part of the 'Washington Crossing the Delaware' design on the reverse, which depicts George Washington leading his troops across the Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. This design briefly replaced the America the Beautiful Quarters Program as a transitional one before the American Women Quarters Program began later in 2022.
