Brief Description

The obverse features the left-facing profile of Lady Liberty wearing a radiant crown, designed by Anthony de Francisci. The reverse typically shows a bald eagle perched on a rock with an olive branch, symbolizing peace.

Historical Significance

Designed to commemorate the end of World War I, it was the first U.S. circulating coin to celebrate peace. The 1922 issue is the most common year in the series as production was ramped up to replace silver dollars melted under the Pittman Act of 1918.
