Brief Description
Obverse features the profile of Abraham Lincoln facing right with 'IN GOD WE TRUST' above and the date to the right. The reverse (not pictured) typically features two wheat stalks framing 'ONE CENT' and 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'.
Historical Significance
The Lincoln Cent was first issued in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. It was the first US coin to feature a person's portrait. 1957 was the second-to-last year the 'Wheat' reverse was used before it was replaced by the Lincoln Memorial design in 1959.
