Brief Description

The obverse features a profile of Thomas Jefferson facing left, with the inscriptions 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and 'LIBERTY' followed by the date 1944.

Historical Significance

Known as 'War Nickels,' these coins were minted between 1942 and 1945 to conserve nickel for military use during World War II. They are easily identified by a large mint mark (P, D, or S) located above the dome of Monticello on the reverse.
