Brief Description

A bronze-colored coin. The reverse (shown) features the denomination '20 FRANCS' above a stylized four-masted ship, with the national motto 'LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE'. The obverse features a profile of Marianne wearing a Gallic cock helmet.

Historical Significance

Designed by Georges Guiraud, this series was issued during the French Fourth Republic. The 'Gallia' or ship motif reflects France's maritime history and the post-WWII reconstruction period before the introduction of the 'New Franc' in 1960.
