Brief Description

The reverse features the numeral 20 with 'CENTIMES' below, flanked by an olive branch and an ear of wheat. The motto 'LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE' is inscribed around the top edge. The obverse (not shown) depicts the profile of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap.

Historical Significance

This coin was part of the 'Nouveau Franc' (New Franc) system introduced by Charles de Gaulle in 1960 to stabilize the French economy. It remained in circulation until the adoption of the Euro in 2002.
