Brief Description
The obverse features a left-facing profile of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Above his head is the word 'LIBERTY', to the left is the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and the date '1974' is inscribed at the bottom.
Historical Significance
1974 marked the final year the standard eagle reverse was minted before the introduction of the special Bicentennial dual-dated 1776-1976 design. The Washington Quarter design originally debuted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth.
