Historical Significance

The Washington Quarter was first struck in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Initially intended as a one-year commemorative, it proved so popular that it replaced the Standing Liberty quarter as a permanent denomination.
