Standing Liberty Quarter

Brief Description

The obverse features Lady Liberty standing between two pedestals, holding a shield and an olive branch. The reverse typically features an eagle in flight.

Historical Significance

Designed by Hermon Atkins MacNeil, this coin replaced the Barber Quarter. Its design was controversial at the time due to Liberty's exposed breast in the 1916 and early 1917 versions, which was subsequently covered with a coat of chain mail in Type 2 designs. This coin circulated through World War I and the early Great Depression.

Estimated Value

$5.00 - $10.00 (Based on silver melt value and heavy wear; 'No Date' versions are common and value is primarily based on silver content)

Care Instructions

Do not clean or polish the coin, as this can severely decrease its numismatic value. Store it in a PVC-free plastic holder or an acid-free envelope to prevent further environmental damage and wear.
