Brief Description

A yellowish, scalloped-edged coin (hexagonal corners). The obverse features the Lion Capital of Ashoka, and the reverse shows a large numeral '20' above a lotus flower flanked by two stalks of grain.

Historical Significance

This coin was part of the decimal series introduced after India moved away from the anna system. The lotus design symbolizes purity and is the national flower of India. The use of aluminium-bronze was common in this era for lower denominations.
