Historical Significance
The Kennedy Half Dollar was first minted in 1964 as a memorial to the assassinated President John F. Kennedy. It replaced the Franklin Half Dollar. 1971 was the first year this denomination was produced in a base metal (copper-nickel clad) composition for circulation, as the previous silver-content coins were being hoarded.
Estimated Value
$0.50 (Face value for circulated examples; high-grade uncirculated or error coins may carry a small premium).
Care Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid cleaning or polishing, as any chemical or abrasive treatment can permanently damage the surface and reduce its numismatic value. Handle by the edges to prevent skin oils from causing oxidation.
