Brief Description

The obverse features a profile portrait of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, facing left. The word 'LIBERTY' is inscribed around the top, and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is positioned near the bottom, split by the portrait. The date '1964' is at the bottom edge.

Historical Significance

Minted shortly after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963, this coin was authorized by Congress to commemorate the late president. 1964 was the first year of issue and the only year this series was minted with 90% silver for general circulation.
