Brief Description

The obverse features Lady Liberty walking toward the sun, draped in the American flag, with her right arm extended and her left arm carrying branches of laurel and oak. The motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the year '1943' are visible.

Historical Significance

Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, this coin is widely considered one of the most beautiful US coins ever minted. In 1943, during World War II, these coins were vital to the American economy; the design was so popular it was later reused for the American Silver Eagle bullion coin.
