Brief Description

The reverse side features the 'Charter Oak' tree. At the top, 'CONNECTICUT' and '1788' are inscribed, and at the bottom are the year '1999' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. The obverse side (not shown) depicts George Washington.

Historical Significance

This was the fifth coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program. The design honors the Charter Oak, a large white oak tree in Hartford, Connecticut, where the colony's Royal Charter of 1662 was hidden from British agents in 1687.
