Brief Description

Small silver-colored coin featuring the right-facing profile of suffragist Susan B. Anthony on the obverse, surrounded by stars and the word LIBERTY with the date 1979 at the bottom. It has a distinctive eleven-sided inner border.

Historical Significance

This was the first circulating U.S. coin to feature a real woman rather than an allegorical figure. It was introduced to replace the bulky Eisenhower Dollar but failed to gain widespread public use due to its similar size and color to the quarter.
