Brief Description

Features the third portrait (obverse) of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, designed by Raphael Maklouf. The rim is inscribed with ELIZABETH II D.G. REG. F.D. 1988.

Historical Significance

This coin represents the transition period of British decimalization. Coins minted between 1985 and 1997 feature the Maklouf portrait of the Queen. The 1988 issue predates the 1992 switch from bronze to copper-plated steel.
