Brief Description
The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a winged cap (Phrygian cap), which was often mistaken for the Roman god Mercury. The word 'LIBERTY' arches over the top, and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is printed near the neck.
Historical Significance
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, this coin replaced the Barber dime in 1916. The winged cap was intended to symbolize 'liberty of thought.' It is considered one of the most beautiful designs in American numismatic history and circulated throughout the Great Depression and World War II.
Estimated Value
$2.00 - $5.00 USD (Highly dependent on specific date, mint mark, and condition/silver melt value)
Care Instructions
Do not clean or polish the coin, as this can severely damage its numismatic value by stripping away the original surface. Handle the coin by its edges to avoid getting oils from your skin on the face of the coin, and store it in an acid-free holder or 'flip' to prevent environmental corrosion.
