The reverse (shown) features the Presidential Seal, which includes a bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a ring of 50 stars and the text 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'HALF DOLLAR'.
Historical Significance
The Kennedy Half Dollar was created as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963. It replaced the Franklin Half Dollar and began production in 1964. The 1964 version was 90% silver, while 1965-1970 versions were 40% silver. Since 1971, they have been made of base metals.
