Lincoln Memorial Cent

Brief Description

The reverse side features the Lincoln Memorial with the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'ONE CENT' around the border, and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' above the monument.

Historical Significance

Introduced in 1959 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, replacing the primary 'Wheat Cent' design. It was the first time a US coin featured the same person on both sides, as the statue of Lincoln is visible inside the memorial.

Estimated Value

Face value ($0.01) for circulated specimens; uncirculated or rare error dates may be worth more.

Care Instructions

Handle by the edges to avoid skin oils transferring to the metal; store in a dry, cool place inside a non-PVC coin holder or sleeve.
