Historical Significance

This coin was minted during the reign of King George VI (whose portrait is on the obverse). Australian half pennies were an essential part of the pre-decimal currency system used from 1911 until the changeover to decimal currency in 1966. The 1951 issue was minted at both the Perth Mint and the Royal Mint in London.
