Brief Description

Features the head of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse and the Spirit of Liberty (Le Gnie de la Libert) from the July Column on the reverse.

Historical Significance

This bimetallic design was introduced in 1988 to replace the previous 10 Francs coin which was often confused with the half-franc. It celebrates French republican values through the iconography of Marianne and the Bastille monument.
