Brief Description

The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II on horseback wearing the uniform of Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards. The reverse shows the coronation regalia within a floral border.

Historical Significance

Issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne in 1952. It was the first time since 1953 that a British coin featured an equestrian portrait of the monarch.
