Brief Description
The obverse features a profile of President Dwight D. Eisenhower with the dual date 1776-1976. The word 'LIBERTY' is at the top left and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is in the bottom right field. The reverse (not shown) depicts the Liberty Bell superimposed on the Moon.
Historical Significance
Issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the United States' independence. It is one of three special circulating bicentennial coins (including the quarter and half dollar). Eisenhower was honored on the dollar starting in 1971 to acknowledge his achievements as a General and President.
