Brief Description

The obverse features a profile portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left, titled with 'LIBERTY' and the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. A small 'D' mint mark is visible above the date, indicating it was minted in Denver.

Historical Significance

Introduced to honor both President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who died in 1969, and the Apollo 11 moon landing. It was the first large-size dollar coin issued by the US Mint after a long hiatus following the Peace Dollar series.
