Five Pence (Royal Shield of Arms)

Brief Description

The reverse of the coin features the center section of the Royal Shield of Arms, designed by Matthew Dent. It shows the words 'FIVE PENCE' across the center and parts of the quartered shield including the Scottish Lion Rampant and the Irish Harp.

Historical Significance

Introduced in 2008 as part of the total redesign of the United Kingdom's circulating coinage. When all denominations from 1p to 50p are placed together, they form the complete image of the Royal Shield of Arms.

Estimated Value

Face value (£0.05) to approximately £0.50 for uncirculated specimens.

Care Instructions

Keep in a cool, dry place. Avoid cleaning with abrasive chemicals as this can damage the numismatic value. If stored long-term, use acid-free coin envelopes or plastic capsules.
